[h=1]Kathputli demolition: Kejriwal slams DDA[/h] TNN | Nov 3, 2017, 07:25 IST New Delhi: Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday slammed the Delhi Development Authority for "brutally" demolishing the slum cluster at Kathputli Colony. Addressing locals, the CM said he was helpless as DDA didn't come under his preview. He also met LG Anil Baijal regarding the demolition drive. Kejriwal said: "People's homes have been brutally demolished in Kathuptli Colony...One kid has died. Personal belongings have been damaged. I request LG... it is not correct to use police and DDA to brutally demolish people's homes (sic)." Questioning DDA's decision to forcefully evict people, Kejriwal said: "What do they wish to establish here by ruining people's lives?" The CM said his government had also rehabilitated 10-12 slum clusters, but people didn't face such problem then. "This is not how in situ rehabilitation is done....We have rehabilitated several slums after coming to power. People have happily left their jhuggis and moved to houses provided by the government. If you give them proper houses, people are ready to move," Kejriwal said. On Thursday, a group of slum dwellers met Kejriwal at his residence. The CM assured them that he would take up the matter with LG. Addressing slum dwellers, Kejriwal said: "If it was in my power, then I won't have let this happen. But in this case, I don't have the power. But I'll meet LG to discuss the issue," he said. He also said that DDA should not carry out demolition till the next court hearing as there was a stay order in place. As many people are still living in the colony, the CM has directed the DM to make arrangements for food, water, toilets and tents. He said AAP was poor people's party and it would always fight for their rights. "The government was elected by the poor, not the rich. We are here to work for the poor. It is our duty to work stand by you," he said. According to a release issued by DDA regarding the CM-LG meeting, Kejriwal "appreciated the work being carried out by DDA as per the orders of the high court". DDA officials said LG accepted the CM's request to allow relief work at Kathputli Colony till the next court hearing.
