I think you have been on the sidelines for too long a period.. Anyday, for investment beyond 3-4 years, equities can give far better return than FD/ Gold even RE. By being on the sidelines, you had the security but lost atleast 2-3 Cr of value. So if you would have been in the market for last 3-4 years, your networth would have been 6.5 to 7 Cr now. If you are sceptical, start slowly with few big funds or else, you can start building your own portfolios by owning some great stocks. I have decent portfolios with 8-10 stocks at anytime.. any correction, I normally add more to it. I have started bitg time investment, post my liquidation of my 2nd flat in 2014. I have managed decent return (around 75% growth) in 3.5 years (and that is after the current 12-15% drop in market in last 2 months). The return, I think is really good. Now, I am into full fledged trading and making decent returns. In fact, last year I made almost 18 lacs in profit in just 6 mths. Trying my best to double that amount this year. But strongly suggest one to stay away from trading as it is a double edged sword. One wrong move and you may be dead. In fact, I heard that 80-90% of retial traders fails to make any money in the long run.

Its not possible to accumulate crores of rupees worth portfolio.
congratz my man... shows that you have gr8t decipline in your savings habit... I know we have and will have countless debates here on what is the best ivestment statergy but at the end of the day its the consitancy and descpline that matters when it comes to achieving results... Now dont get stuck in the "i want 1 Crore More.. " mindset... :) I have also achieved similar figure of about 4.2 cr from 1.8 cr when i joined here... The first 1 crore is waht i remeber saving in every detail after that it just becomes a routine we stick to and let it compound at its own pace... All the best...

You need massive gam.bling level luck for these things. I've been studying the market for a while now. Though you come across curious things. For example I studied the EV/EBITDA trends and its variants for quite a while. Even did some MC simulations for a while too. The reality never agrees with your conclusions. I did these experiments with my real money and almost always the deviations are huge, despite sitting down and tuning my equations for hours. Watching Martin Shkreli's lectures gave me more idea into why this is so. He almost demonstrates that you can barely beat inflation with simple DCF analysis. Stocks don't make you money unless you are: 1. Starting with big money. Thereby any returns will look huge. For example 10% of a crore is 10 lacs. 10 lacs looks huge, unless you realize you need to start with a crore. 2. Able to Land yourself right into the middle of a bull run, and have massive good luck going for yourself. 3. Smart enough happen to pick some portfolio/mutual fund which happens to just work. You can do any backtracking analysis and the market will more or less never agree with you. I also checked other stock and trading related forums. Most will tell you mere stock investments will only give you FD level returns, given how much good and bad parts cancel out on the longer run. Lastly if you are starting with small money, only way to make big money is trading. And hope you are really lucky.
