[h=1]Morgan Stanley Says Stock Slide Was Appetizer for Real Deal[/h] By Chris Anstey February 19, 2018, 11:12 PM ESTUpdated on February 20, 2018, 3:50 AM EST The U.S. stock market only had a taste of the potential damage from higher bond yields earlier this year, with the biggest test yet to come, according to Morgan Stanley. Appetizer, not the main course, is how the banks strategists led by London-based Andrew Sheets described the correction of late January to early February. Although higher bond yields proved tough for equity investors to digest, the key metric of inflation-adjusted yields didnt break out of their range for the past five years, they said in a note Monday. While many have warned that faster inflation could hurt stocks, in theory bigger price gains should be at worst neutral, if they boost earnings along the way. Higher real yields, on the other hand, mean a bigger discount rate to value future earnings. Should they break out of the range over the past five years as investors anticipate greater central bank policy normalization, that could hit stocks harder, according to the Morgan Stanley thinking. Relatively low real yields were a big support for equity valuations, so a break higher would indicate that stocks will have to rely on earnings -- not multiple expansion -- to drive them higher, Sheets and his colleagues wrote. And the challenge there is that a slowdown may loom starting in the second quarter, they said. Its when growth softens while inflation is still rising that returns suffer most, the strategists wrote. Strong global growth and a good first-quarter reporting season provided an important offset. We remain on watch for tricky hand-off in the second quarter, as core inflation rises and activity indicators moderate. JPMorgan Chase & Co. strategists have also pointed to real rates as a potential inflection point for markets, though they identified in December the inflation-adjusted cash rate as the one to watch. That measure has a ways to go until their threshold.
I connected to internet today after almost 10 days. I felt like completely cut off from internet world but I could spend quality time with my family members. This phase taught me very important lessons of life which I'll remember my whole life. Like mentioned below, money isnt everything. Relationships matter more than that. Someday we'll have lots of money but no one will around us with whom we would want to share our happiness. In my native place, so many old school frnds came to meet me after hearing about my father to whom I didnt meet in last 18-20 yrs. Sorry for being off topic.
This is a very hard time for you. In moments like this you get a huge perspective on life and mortality of all living beings. Plus you also get to see how short life is in so many ways. Take some time out and don't read too much of negative new of any kind, it will just aggravate the whole situation and give you existential angst. I would recommend just spend time with loved ones, and let time do the healing.

Gold continues to fall. I don't trust its ability to act as a safe haven anymore. During recent slide gold also fell inspite of rising inflation. Also gold is not protecting against rupee depreciation now, after Nirav Modi, gold has become as dirty as real estate. I am going to lighten my gold position before it slides down even more.
As I have posted several times, there is billions going into crypto. If done correctly and without being greedy , it can make extraordinary returns . The year 2018 will be the year of massive numbers of ICO's ( initial coin offers ) similar to IPO for stocks. I suspect that 9 out of 10 of the ICO's in 2018 will fail but the ones that succeed will generate extraordinary returns ( I am talking of 100-1000x returns ) in a very short space of time ( years instead of decades in the case of stocks ) Simple reason , to buy a stock, you have geographical /Currency/ KYC restrictions. But in a ICO ,you dont have any such issues ( yes some dont allow US/China but that's what a VPN is for ). Anyone on the world with a mobile phone can participate. Almost all of these need BTC or ETH partipate.Very few allow fiat . This creates a demand for Cryptos like BTC and ETH. Therefore my theory that BTC will surpass its all time highs this year along with ETH which might even do better due to smart contracts (posting at BTC at $ 10400 and ETH at $840 on 21/2/2018) I also have to admit that BTC probably will die a death at some point . Its just not working well as a currency and will have others taking over. However well worth holding in 2018 along with ETH
