the raising small cap IPOs are warning sign of impending trouble... The retail bakara are into full blown gam-bling... Seems the retail people jumping in at the high too ... just about time the greed sets in... long term debt and equity both are going to be in trouble... Tell me one thing.. Investing in duds is always a problem and nothing can save you.. but in Equity if you pick right Mutual funds and invest really over long term.. like they are investing for their 6 year old kid in the article.. Is it such a big issue.. Markets will fall.. you are living in Utopia if you think it will keep going up.. But continuing to invest systematically in good quality MF's till their son reaches say 18 which is 12 year from now might actually be not such a bad thing. You can take an exposure to Balanced funds if you don't want only equity. Of course the key operative words are "systematically" and "continue" to invest. Also I presume they have some funds parked in liquid or cash for exigencies. How do you expect novices to time the market or understand PE ratios to determine the right time.. Yes IPOs, direct equity and derivatives are for the experts and as long as you understand the limitation and continue to have a disciplined approach, you will do better.. much better then FD's.. The goal is to "Secure the future" and not to get the highest return.
the raising small cap IPOs are warning sign of impending trouble... They have no real holding power ie mental fortitude to live though massive portfolio draw downs like 30%-50% down.... Irrational Increases in retail participation in markets at high valuations have always been succeeded by market crashes... "how do you expect novices to time the market or understand PE ratios to determine the right time.." You should not invest in what you don't understand or take the time to understand... If you don't believe me on this just wait and watch what unfolded in the near future... People entering the market now will not make any money and worse they might lose a lot...
